Friday Night Is Music Night.
BBC Radio 2. 16th July 2004.
BBC Concert Orchestra.
Soloists:
Scott Davies.
Shona Lindsay.
Scott comes back to the radio on Friday Night
Is Music Night. I missed the original broadcast because essentially I didn’t know it was on. However, Rose told me the
day after and gave me a link to listen to it on the BBC web-site which I did. I also with the wonders of technology managed
to record it so I can listen to it forever and ever! Yay!
The great thing about this show is it really
brought out Scott’s character singing abilities, two songs he had to bring out really strong Characters through the
songs and I thought it was really good and he shows what the Characters are like clearly through his voice. Bravo Mr.Davies!
Right
let’s start with the first number;
‘Anything You Can Do’ from Annie
Get Your Gun.
Well it’s a World Famous Musical
number so I’m bound to know it!This was one of
the songs in which Scott needed to show his Character.
The
American Accent, was perfect, I could imagine him in a cowboy hat, kind of John Wayne stylee, all smarty-pants and smug. I
can’t say I’ve seen this Musical so that description is probably very wrong but in my mind I like it!
The way he sang his lines was brilliant too, he gave them some depth
and character instead of just plain out singing them, also Shona seemed a nice person to play off so I can imagine it was
a nice song to sing.
‘Til There Was You’ from The Music
Man.
1. I’m not familiar with the show.
2. I’m not familiar with the song.
3. I didn’t like it.
Now, I’m honest as you can get. If I don’t
like something I will say. There’s no skipping around it. I’m blatant. In this business you can only be nice when
someone/thing deserves nice. If you’re blatantly honest it helps. That’s why I’m going to say, that this
song I personally do not like! I find it kind of tedious in a way, it’s the stereotypical old fashioned musical love
song but it has no build into it, it doesn‘t have anything to grip you. Now I’m not digging Scott for this because
he played a bad hand well. His voice was lovely but this song I don’t honestly like and I wont pretend I liked it just
so I can big up the show or Scott. Like I said, Scott played it well. But this song gets 0!
‘This Is The Moment’ from Jekyll
& Hyde.
For both of the Friday Night Is Music Night
shows Scott has done, there’s always been a surprise song that the fans had always wanted to hear him sing. Last show
it was Bring Him Home. This time it was This Is The Moment. I love this song, it’s just a brilliant, powerful song.
I first heard it on the TV series “The Cruise” where Jane MacDonald sang it in her Cabaret show and ever since
that, it stuck to me. Scott nailed this Broadway smash tune!
Please someone swap Paul Nicholas with Scott Davies for the West End premiere of this show because Scott is awesome
singing this song, if not Scott for the premiere at least give him the opportunity for the next cast. I’d be shocked if Scott doesn’t get offered something even if it’s
not Jekyll & Hyde after this rendition.
‘Sit Down You’re Rockin The Boat’
from Guys & Dolls.
Scott sang a song from Guys & Dolls last
time. Could he like this show? This is the other song
he needed to bring out the Character. My favourite bit is were he acts drunk. Now we know what Scott’s like when he’s
chugged on some Whiskey…or so we think!
Again
he brings the Character out smoothly, nice American accent, it really compliments the song. A nice wee Character song to listen
to, quite comedic too so it’s nice on the ears. Perhaps I should actually watch Guys & Dolls I liked the song from
the other show and like this one so I’m assuming I’ll probably like the show.
‘I Know Now’ from Robert & Elizabeth.
…Well, a bit of a let down for the last
song I must admit.
Again the singing was fine but
the song was just bland and not enjoyable to me. I can safely say I’ve not heard of the show Robert & Elizabeth
either, I think the reason why is quite apparent.
Singing
fine but as a finale…? Back the to the drawing board!
